Street Style Chow mein|Veg Chowmein| Desi Noodles Recipe

Chow mein/ Chowmein is a Chinese Stir Fry noodle with lots of veggies and can have both veg & non-veg versions.

Chow mein or Chowmein has gained a lot of popularity in recent years and has become a popular street food across the globe. Being so popular across the countries, it has been made in different ways with a lot of variations in different places.

Here, I am sharing my street-style chowmein recipe, an Indo-Chinese fusion, that will give you the exact “thelle wala swaad” we usually carve for.

The recipe is very simple and gets ready in no time. In this recipe, I have used local noodles, available in any grocery shop along with some traditional sauces and some veggies. But you are always free to customize it according to your choice and needs.

This street-style noodle can be a nice starter at your kid’s birthday party, as the kids just love chowmein. Or you can pair it with some Chilli Chicken, Chicken in Oyster SauceChilli Mushroom, Manchurian, etc. and have it for your dinner/lunch if you want.

How to make Street Style Chow mein | Veg Chowmein | Desi Noodles recipe –     Step-by-Step recipe with Images at each step: –

Ingredients:-

For Boiling the noodles:-

  1. Noodles – 4-5 cakes
  2. Water – for boiling
  3. Oil -2-3 tbsp
  4. Salt – to taste

Sauces:-

  1. Soy Sauce – 2 tbsp
  2. Red chilli sauce – 1 tbsp
  3. Green chilli sauce – 1- 1 ½ tbsp
  4. Vinegar – 1 tbsp
  5. Tomato sauce – 1 tbsp

For the Chow mein:-

  1. Oil – 6-7 tbsp
  2. Green Chillies – 4-5 chopped
  3. Onion – 3-4 medium sizes (sliced)
  4. Ginger-garlic paste – 1-1 ½ tbsp
  5. Carrot – 1 cup
  6. Capsicum – 2 medium size
  7. Spring onion – ½ cup
  8. Salt & pepper

Method:-

Boiling the Noodles:

  1. Take a large vessel and add water for boiling.

  1. Add oil and salt to the water. (This will prevent the noodles from sticking).

  1. Bring it to a boil.

  1. Add the noodles.

  1. Cook for a few minutes until the noodles are cooked, or refer to the package instructions for the cooking time.

  1. Drain the water and rinse the noodles in cold water to stop the cooking process.

  1. Keep the noodles aside.

Making the Chowmein:

  1. Take a large wok or kadhai and heat it nicely.

  1. Now add the oil and increase the flame.

  1. Add the green chillies and onion.

  1. Sauté for a few seconds on high flame.

  1. Add the ginger-garlic paste.

  1. Cook for a few seconds until the rawness of the ginger-garlic paste is gone.

  1. Add the veggies.

  1. Sauté & stir on high flame.

  1. Do not overcook the vegetables.

  1. Add the sauces.

  1. Stir it nicely.

  1. Sprinkle some salt and pepper.

  1. Mix it.

  1. Add the boiled noodles and sprinkle some more salt & pepper.

  1. Toss them nicely, so that the sauces, veggies and noodles are mixed nicely.

  1. The street-style chow mein/ desi noodles are ready to serve.

  1. Garnish it with some spring onions and serve.

  1. Hot & Spicy Street Style Chowmein is ready to be served Hot.

For Boiling the noodles:-

  • 4-5  cakes Noodles
  • 2-3  tbsp Oil
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  • Add the noodles.
