Aloo Pakora is one of the most popular and favourite evening snacks in India.
Aloo Pakora, are crispy potato fritters coated in a spiced batter of chickpea or besan. It is quite simple and easy to make and can be prepared in very little time, with minimum effort.
In Indian cuisine, we have different varieties of pakoras that are made with veggies, lentils, paneer or cheese-like – paneee pakora, Malabar spinach pakoras, cheese pakora, onion pakora, palak patta pakora, bread pakora, etc.
Aloo k Bhajiye is prepared by deep-frying sliced potatoes coated in a batter of gram flour, some spices and herbs. All the ingredients that are required to make these fritters are simple & basic ingredients present in every household.
Pakoras are very popular in India, especially during the monsoon & the best feeling that one can have is, to watch the rain with a cup of hot coffee/tea and a plate full of pakoras.
This recipe will guide you through the step by step process of making these yummy & crispy pakoras, with images at each step. A full recipe video is also added.

How to make Aloo Pakora | Aloo k Bhajiye | Quick Evening Snacks
Ingredients:-
- Potato / aloo – 3-4 sliced
- Gram flour/ besan – 1 cup
- Green chilli/ hari mirch – 2-3 chopped
- Fresh coriander leaves/ dhaniya patti
- Turmeric/ haldi powder – 1/2 tsp
- Red chilli/ lal mirch powder – 1/2 tsp
- Carom seeds/ ajwain – 1 tsp
- Salt to taste
- Water – for making the batter
Method:-
- Wash the potatoes and slice them into a round or oval shape.
- Remove the excess water and keep it aside
Preparing the batter:-
- Take a bowl and add the flour.
- Add all the spices (turmeric, red chilli, carom seeds & salt).
- Mix the dry ingredients.
- Slowly add water and mix the batter.
- Add & mix water until the desired consistency is achieved. (refer to the videofor better understanding).
- The batter is ready.
- Add the chopped coriander and green chillies.
- Mix it nicely.
- The final batter is ready.
Making the Aloo Pakoras:-
- Heat the oil in a kadhai/ wok and keep it ready for frying the pakoras.
- Dip the sliced potato pieces one by one into the batter and coat them well from both sides.
- Add the coated potato/ aloo slices slowly and carefully into the oil for frying (Tip:- make use of a fork/ spoon if you are not comfortable with your hands).
- When one side is lightly golden, gently turn over the pieces and fry the other side.
- Flip and fry a couple of times for even frying.
- When the pakoras are crisp & golden, take them out on tissue paper to remove the excess oil.
- Repeat the steps for the rest of the potato slices.
- And the Aloo pakoras are ready. Serve them hot with green chutney/ tomato chutney/ sauce along with a cup of hot tea or coffee.
