Sooji ka Halwa is a very famous & Traditional Indian dessert from old times.

Sooji ka Halwa is a traditional sweet prepared in every home on different occasions like festivals, some sort of celebration or even when there is a sudden guest in our home.

It is prepared by toasting semolina (sooji/suji) in ghee or oil and then adding sugar or sugar syrup along with some dry fruits.

Sooji ka halwa/ Rava Sheera or simply Sheera is also given as prasad in many temples. It has a very soft and fluffy texture with the crunchiness of the dry fruits.

The traditional Sooji Halwa recipe is quite simple and easy to cook. It can be prepared with only 3 basic ingredients (Sooji or Rava or semolina, ghee and sugar) and other ingredients like dry fruits, cardamom, Kesar, etc. are all optional and can be used according to one’s choice.

The ratio of the ingredients in making the halwa is very important to get the rich, soft and fluffy texture. The whole step by step process with images is discussed below:-

Ingredients:

  1. Sooji – 1 cup
  2. Ghee – 3/4th cup
  3. Water – 2 cup
  4. Sugar – 1 cup
  5. Dry fruits

Method:

How to make Delicious Desi Ghee Sooji Halwa

  1. Take a pan and heat the ghee over medium flame.
  2. When the ghee is heated add the sooji and stir continuously with the spatula.
  3. Roast until the sooji is slightly golden brown.
  4. When done add water and stir continuously.
  5. After a minute add the sugar with constant stirring. (Stirring is necessary to avoid lumps).
  6. Mix well and then cover the pan with a lid and cook for 2-3 mins.
  7. After 2-3 minutes remove the lid and again mix well.
  8. Now the halwa is almost ready and you can add dry fruits and cardamom (optional).
  9. Mix well.
  10. Traditional Sooji Halwa is ready. Garnish it with dry fruits and serve hot.
