Banana Chips are a deep-fried Indian snack made from raw bananas or kachha kela. It is very popular in South India & is made especially as a munching evening snack.
Banana chips are crispy, crunchy and flavourful that can be enjoyed at any time of the day or whenever you want to munch something while working/ studying/ reading or in the evening with a cup of hot tea or coffee!
These chips are very easy to make and require only 2 main ingredients i.e. raw banana and oil for frying. There are 2 types of banana chips – yellow and the other is plain white.
In this recipe, we will be making the popular Kerala-style yellow banana chips that will taste exactly like the ones we purchase from the market. The best part of this recipe is – it is very simple to make and doesn’t require any fancy ingredients.
This recipe is a simple and instant way of making healthy and delicious banana chips or banana wafers at home with minimal effort and time. Also, you can store them in an airtight container or a zip lock for 15- 20 days easily.

How to make Crispy & Crunchy Banana Chips at Home| Raw Banana Chips| Kerala Wafers. Step-by-Step recipe with images at each step: –
Ingredients: –
- Raw Banana – 2-3
- Oil – for deep frying
- Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
- Salt to taste
Method: –
- Take a raw banana.
- Cut both ends of the banana.
- Now start peeling the banana with the help of a peeler.
- Once the bananas are ready, slice them with the slicer into medium-thick slices.
- Sliced banana.
- Transfer the banana slices to a bowl.
- Add turmeric and salt.
- Next, add water and mix nicely.
- Soak the banana slices in this solution for a few seconds.
- Now take them out and remove the excess water.
- The chips are ready to fry.
- Heat the oil in a kadhai for frying.
- Add the banana slices in batches.
- Stir a little and add 2-3 tsp of salt solution to get the saltiness of the chips. (refer to the recipe video if you have any doubts.)
- Fry them on medium to high flame until crisp & golden.
- Keep stirring at regular intervals to avoid overcooking.
- Take them out on a paper napkin to remove excess oil.
- The first batch of our Banana chips is ready.
- In the same way, fry all the remaining slices.
- Hot & Crispy Banana chips or Kerela wafers are ready.
Store them in an airtight container and enjoy this munching snack whenever you feel like it!!
