Sweet lassi is a very cooling and refreshing drink from the Punjabi cuisine that is perfect for warm summer months.
Lassi is a yogurt–based probiotic drink and is good for the stomach, as it helps in fighting the heat and keeps you cool and refreshing on hot summer days.
The traditional way of making lassi is by churning curd/yogurt, sugar and some additional flavouring in a churner until it is smooth and creamy.
You can also choose to blend the lassi in an electric blender or mixer, but I prefer to make it this way using the traditional mathani or churner, as it has its own charm and the taste of the lassi is also different.
Nowadays, we have many different flavours of lassi available like Mango Lassi, Strawberry lassi, Kesar lassi, Banana lassi, etc. but, as per my personal view, non can beat the original taste of the plain lassi.
Lassi is usually served with meals or in the afternoon during the hot summer as a cooling beverage as it has cooling properties. The recipe for making lassi is very simple and it can be prepared in just a few minutes. So let’s quickly check out the recipe.
How to make Sweet Lassi | Punjab di Plain Lassi | Sweet Yogurt Drink
Ingredients:-
- Thick curd/yogurt – 500 grams
- Powdered sugar – 1 cup or as per taste
- Crushed green cardamon -2-3
- Ice- cubes
Method:-
- Take fresh chilled curd in a mixing bowl.
- Add sugar and crushed cardamom.
- Add a few ice cubes or chilled water if you want.
- Now churn the mix with the churner or mathani. You can also use a mixer or electric blender if you want.
- Keep churning or whisking until it is smooth and creamy.
- Pour the lassi into a serving glass.
- Add some more ice cubes if you want.
- Garnish it with some dry fruits and serve chilled.
